☠️Dark Fort: A Proto-Mörk Borg Solo Dungeon Crawler & A Digital Port
If you are familiar with the most Doomiest TTRPG out there aka Mörk Borg, you are probably aware of its ancestor: Dark Fort.
Like Mörk Borg, Dark Fort was made by Pelle Nilsson, in 2018. It got 2 stunning artworks by David Hoskins and the layout was made by Johan Nohr (the very one behind Mörk Borg’s amazing arts)
So, what is Dark Fort?
It’s a micro solo Dungeon Crawler that fits into a single sheet of paper.
You play as Kargunt who aims to explore dungeons and kill monsters.
The rules are pretty simple:
You start with one weapon, one item, some silvers and 15 HP. No stats.
Then, for each room, you roll on a d6 Room Table, then on a 2d6 Room Shape and finally on a d4 for exits. Repeat ‘til you win or die.
Combat is also minimalist: roll a d6 and tie or surpass the monsters’ Points (each monster has its own Points). If you win: you hit and roll for your weapon’s damage. If you fail, you are hit. If the enemy is killed, you gain its points.
You need to accumulate 15 points and explore 12 rooms to level up.
After 7 levels up, you win the whole game: “You retire and remain in your cottage or castle until the 7th Misery occurs and everything you know blackens and burns. Congratulation.”
I really love this game, its simplicity and the whole grim vibe it delivers.
It’s brutal, deadly and moody.
It was a huge inspiration for my game GrimRogue which is also a one-page solo Dungeon Crawler (well, two pages actually).
You can read Rotten Chronicles’ article who goes more in depth into the game.
There are also some very cool hacks and extensions for Dark Fort on itch.
Unfortunately, there is only one way to get Dark Fort: to buy Mörk Borg Cult: Feretory, a Mörk Borg zine. As a MB’s GM I was very happy to get Dark Fort as a goodies with this book though.

Dark Fort Web Demake by Caffeine |
But, don’t despair, there’s a new way to play Dark Fort since 07/07 of this very year!
Caffeine made a very cool web demake of the game to celebrate 7/7.
A nice way to discover Dark Fort if you can’t play it with dice and paper!
You can play it here and it works on both phones and on computers.

Breakless Cover |
I really suggest that you read my last newsletter to get all the info, everything was already told here.
So, yeah, last week, I released my new TTRPG thing called Breakless. It’s a Breathless TTRPG adventure where you have to get out of a prison while a zombie outbreak occurs.
Then, I went to a festival made by friends of mine, and I played a Surf Rock live show and we had a blast. I’m happy with all the very positive feedback we received and I can’t wait to play again!
Otherwise, I’m heavily working on converting my van into a house with wheels, to be able to leave for some weeks during the holidays.
It will be a great trip across various French mountain ranges from the west to the very east of France, where we aim to see the highest European mountain: Mont Blanc (4806 meters).
Can’t wait!
Thanks for reading!
